An unusual caudiciform species from the Transvaal with multiple stems bearing succulent, gray-green leaves. The caudex is a cluster of smaller rhizomes that can reach 6 inches or larger. The bright red-orange flowers are in pom-pom like clusters.

Neoregelia 'Geisha Girl', an old compacta cross by Jim Elmore. Hardy for landscapes and can take a lot of sun. Nice.

An interesting species from Bahia, Brazil where it grows on exposed rock. Upright growing with narrow, 8 inch long leaves on a caulescent stem. The inflorescence is an erect spike, slightly taller than the foliage, terminating with a cluster of pink bracts and white flowers. A mature plant in bloom can reach 16 inches tall and 8 inches wide. Our plant is descended directly from the type collection by Elton Leme.

A uncommon species that is not found in many plant collections. It originates in Minas Gerais, Brazil growing on rocky outcroppings. The color can vary from gray to silver with hints of red. The mature size is 10 to 12 inches across.

A rare, smaller relative of Tillandsia fasciculata from Jamaica, although our specimen sourced from the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens (SEL 1986-0480) came from the Dominican Republic via Luis Ariza-Julia. It is unknown where he got the plant. Very narrow, silvery-gray leaves in an upright rosette to about 7 to 8 inches with a multi-branched inflorescence of bright red with light blue flowers. A very attractive, rare, small species.

A clone of capitata from Steve Correale, as best as we can ascertain. It could be a hybrid or a cross of different clones of the species, but for sure it is a nice, large, colorful plant. An open rosette of arching green leaves with silvery trichomes and a slight blush of red. The inflorescence is capitate with long bracts of pinkish-orange. Very colorful and long lasting. 

A nice Ray Coleman hybrid clone of RC064 is (3464#10 x Zuelica). A fairly large grower but not heavy bodied. Reaching 36 inches across in a rosette of 3 inch wide leaves. The color is light green with ivory-white variegation and some purple blotching in the leaves. The cup blushes light lavender at anthesis.

A Ray Coleman cross of (gigas x ‘Tingua’) that is a large growing plant reaching 20 inches tall and 45 inches across with 3 inch wide leaves. In strong light the leaves are rich, rusty brown with some dark red speckling. No significant color change at anthesis. Flowers are blue. Useful in landscape as it is a large grower with a tolerance for sun and harsh conditions.

Yet unnamed, this Sharon Petersen hybrid of Dyckia choristaminea and an unreported other Dyckia as pollen parent is a smaller grower. Compact rosettes of narrow, bronze/red leaves dusted with silvery white scurffing are about six inches across when mature. The leaves, though narrow, are wider than the choristaminea parent, at about a quarter inch.

A larger growing form of this natural hybrid from Florida. A primary hybrid that can be between any of the millions of Tillandsia fasciculata v. densispica x balbisiana in the Everglades and as luck would have it, this one is just an extra-large growing form. About 25% larger than other clones we grow, reaching 30 to 36 inches tall or more, consistently. The inflorescence is correspondingly larger too.

As with the typical form the plants have bronzy foliage which forms a bulbous base with long, tapering leaves in a rosette with an upright vase shape. The inflorescence is very tall with a red scape, long, recurving bracts and a cluster of upright, long, bright red branches. Colorful and easy to grow.

There are few Hechtia hybrids of any kind which is unfortunate because there are many with great potential. This hybrid has a few cultivars of (texensis x stenopetala) by California Hechtia expert Andy Siekkinen, selected for nearly identical characteristics. This means that it is quite possible to have both male and female plants within this hybrid grex.

A very leafy and of course stiff and wickedly spiny rosette with leaves that taper to a long, narrow point and large spines are hooked inward. Depending on growing conditions, the plant can reach 30 inches across and color in bright light to full sun can vary from red to maroon.

This clone comes out of the (Brittle Star F2 x estevesii) x estevesii grex, but looked quite a bit different.  We thought it was a stray Orthyophytum at first. It has reddish brown foliage with hints of green, silver scurfing with large spines on recurving leaves.
