A nice form of nudicaulis that Wally Berg brought back from a Brazil trip some years ago. We do not know the exact type, though it looks a lot like capitata in general shape. A stout, wide leaved, tubular rosette with stiff green to yellowish leaves with a slight red marginal blush, red apiculate tips and prominent black spines.

The plants have the typical ‘thumb print’ of the species and produce offsets of short, stout stolons. A decorative plant for mounting or for a hanging basket.

Both parents of this Ray Lemieux cross of Hechtia lanata x myriantha have some interesting characteristics that should express themselves when the plants grow out. The seed parent, H. lanata, has broad, scurfy, twisting and curling leaves in habitat, which is a tropical desert environment on nutrient poor cliffs.

In cultivation, seedlings of this species tend to have straighter foliage, at least here in sea-level Florida. The pollen parent, H. myriantha, is a giant grower, perhaps the largest of all Hechtia species. Anecdotal stories report that this plant can reach the size of a VW Beetle! The intent of this cross was to produce a large growing hybrid with twisted foliage and silvery scurf. Only time will tell if that will happen.

A miniature hybrid of (albertiana x arequitae) by Mark Dimmitt.  A fascinating beautiful hybrid with large peach to lavender colored flowers to 2 inches in diameter. Foliage is stiff and silvery in an upright, loose rosette of a dozen leaves.

A choice little hybrid, rarely offered. 

This is a natural hybrid apparently of (ionantha x lenca (formerly fasciculata ‘Hondurensis’) that came from Honduras and was given to Bill Timm some years ago. Later Bill gave us a piece back with the name ‘Veronica’s Gift’ on it. It took quite a while to propagate enough to release them.

It is a handsome plant with many silvery, semi-stiff leaves in a full, vase shaped rosette. Unusual for an ionantha hybrid, it does not blush in the center at anthesis but rather produces a short cluster of pinkish branches and blue flowers. A very nice plant that has proven easy to cultivate under typical conditions afforded our Tillandsias.

This nice cross by Lisa Vinzant is a cultivar of Neoregelia chlorosticta ‘Marble Throat’ x Sincoraea (formerly Orthophytum) navioides. Of a size rather typical of many xSincoregelias, about 20 inches across or so with many narrow, stiff leaves in a very leafy rosette. The leaves are lime green and tint pinkish in strong light. At anthesis the center leaves blush deep fuchsia pink out the nearly the leaf tips. Flowers are light lavender in a nidular inflorescence.

This species is similar in some ways to Til. gurreroensis, but is smaller, with larger, almost fuzzy, trichomes. The inflorescence is simple, a pink spike with deep blue flowers. (The photo is lighter than actual) Discovered by Renate Ehlers, and named by her for her husband and collecting partner, Klaus. A rare gem.

A hybrid of Portea kermesina x Aechmea blanchetiana that makes an interesting plant for landscape with a long lasting inflorescence of red branches and bracts and yellow flowers.  The foliage is coppery red.  Does best in light shade.

This is a giant form of Tillandsia pruinosa from Colombia. It is like the smaller or regular forms except that it is larger and does not color up at anthesis as some forms do. It grows to nearly 12 inches tall with a thick base. It might resemble a slightly more slender Tillandsia seleriana due to its size but is a pruinosa for sure. Up right leaves and a bulbous base, all covered with heavy trichomes. Nice.

A nice form of this variable species which was collected by Berg and Anderson in Brazil. This form has stiff leaves, an upright, tubular shape, and the classic ’thumb-print’. The leaves are gray-green with silvery bands and the inflorescence is a compact cone with yellow flowers and bright red bracts.

Drimiopsis maculata is an evergreen geophyte found on forest floors and shaded stream banks in eastern southern Africa. Leaves are deeply lobed on slender banded petioles, with dark green spots and wavy margins. Flowers are in a small compact inflorescence. The buds are white and the flowers grey green. This plant flowers between September and April. Grow the bulbs in a well drained, but organic rich medium and keep it moist during the summer growing season. It does fine with year-round watering. The species is winter deciduous and can take light frost, but not a hard freeze. Plant in light shade to part sun. Freckles on leaves will be more colorful in summer.

Found near Rio Grande, Bolivia, this form seems to have straighter leaves than the typical duratii. The inflorescence is simple but bears many very large purple flowers. The fragrance is strong and a single specimen can perfume an entire garden. Does not root as an adult, so it must be attached with glue or wires to a mount. Best results may come from suspending the plant from a string or wire and hanging it in a bright airy spot.

Easiest of all the fragrant Tillandsias to cultivate.
