A handsome, spiny species from far south Brazil to Paraguay and Argentina. An open rosette of recurving, inch wide leaves that are green with just a hint of silver. Marginal spines are large and pale colored. A robust grower that produces many offsets. Our plant came from the Departmento Paraguari of Paraguay and has the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens accession number of SEL1996-0213.

This could be the smallest species of the genus. A tiny plant with many narrow, soft spined leaves in a 2 to 3 inch rosette. The delicate inflorescence with yellow flowers in only about ten inches tall. Great for pot culture or dish gardens. Makes a dense cluster with the production of many offsets. A must for collectors.

A very fine smaller species with thickly succulent, very silvery to almost fuzzy leaves. Native to Southwestern Mexico, this clone is one from the collection of Ruby Ryde in Australia. A very nice, compact clone with very thick, silvery-white leaves. This species is easy to grow, will mature in a 6 inch pot but would do best in a larger container as the plant will form a cluster with time. The inflorescence is pink to purplish and plants are either male or female.

A cultivar of the hybrid marnier-lapostollei x glomerata by Sally Marz. Hechtia hybrids are fairly unusual. This plant, according to the late Dutch Vandeervort is a "A robust version of marnier-lapostollei" - leaves to about 12 inches and was a favorite of his with many gracing his Ventura, California garden. Many narrow, somewhat soft, spiny green leaves dusted with silver. A handsome plant and easy to grow.

This large grower was released in 2010. A brightly colored hybrid of (carolinae variegated x Hannibal Lecter) x Norman Bates x (Blushing Tiger x Norman Bates). Up to 22 inches across. It has a upright bottle shape and a loose rosette. The green leaves have narrow white margins with small spines. In good light the plant develops a magenta veneer giving it a bright color. There are broken bands of dark red throughout the leaves. In strong light the outer leaves turn dark to almost black.
