This plant, according to the late Dutch Vandeervort is a "A robust version of marnier-lapostollei" - leaves to about 12 inches and was a favorite of his with many gracing his Ventura, California garden. Many narrow, somewhat soft, spiny green leaves dusted with silver. A handsome plant and easy to grow.

This cultivar of Cryptanthus acaulis var. ruber is a small full round plant with 30+ leaves that attains a size of 8-inches in diameter. The creamy coffee colored leaves, in the proper light blushes pink in the center, have a faint center ridge visible and are sparsely scaled near the leaf base. The underside is fused in fine lineated stripes of scurf.

As rare as they come. This is a beauty from Bahia, Brazil described by Luther & Norton, SEL96-0587A. A showy species with center leaves upright, fairly stiff and bright maroon-red. Lower leaves tend to drape over. Mature at about 3 feet tall, it produces a showy inflorescence with a red rachis and branches with greenish sepals that starts erect then drapes over of its own weight. A showy species suited to full sun. This plant is in few collections, anywhere.

This large grower was released in 2010. A brightly colored hybrid of (carolinae variegated x Hannibal Lecter) x Norman Bates x (Blushing Tiger x Norman Bates). Up to 22 inches across. It has a upright bottle shape and a loose rosette. The green leaves have narrow white margins with small spines. In good light the plant develops a magenta veneer giving it a bright color. There are broken bands of dark red throughout the leaves. In strong light the outer leaves turn dark to almost black.
