One of Grant Groves finest hybrids. A large, robust plant with especially broad leaves in a 24 inch rosette that blushes a bright red with maturity, regardless of blooming.

A spectacular robust form of chantinii is green with silver banding and has bold creamy white stripes up the center of each leaf. The inflorescence has yellowish branches with bright orange-red bracts. A sensational plant.
I look for good roots on every plant , but the chantinii especially , this was well done in the fine coconut coir
Changing various garden beds over to bromelaids and receiving many compliments from persons walking by, the colors of the plants & flowers are really wonderful.
Gorgeous plant! This one really stands out in a crowd.

This is a spectacular, large-growing species, descended from plants grown from seed collected by Wally Berg on Pico do Fernando, Bahia, Brazil. The plants have hundreds of narrow, strap-like, spiny leaves at maturity, recurving downward to form a graceful ball-like shape. Encholirium species grow much like the genus Dyckia, enjoying water in the growing season and a rest in cooler weather.
Can grow in filtered light or full sun. This species is monocarpic or occasionally making one or two offsets. The bloom spike can reach 4 feet in height and branches out, the flowers are large for bromeliads, with green bracts and petals filled with a pungent, sticky fluid, possibly to attract pollinators; bats have been seen pollinating this plant.
Packaging was Perfect and it arrived quickly without damage . . . and the plant is Beautiful

A cultivar of ampullacea x tigrina by W. Morris. This is a great little plant with the characteristics that make it hot for hybridizers. A miniature, about 6 inches tall in an upright, stoloniferous rosette, with light green leaves heavily barred below with dark reddish-maroon.
The bars and bands show through the leaf from below. The green base color will turn yellow with strong light and the red bands become much brighter too. The plant was a favorite of our late friend Wally Berg.
Super high quality as usual! First bromeliads I purchased that are potted plants. I Usually purchase unrooted pups. Very nice & big growing plants!

As you may be aware, Fireball is actually an undescribed species that has never been re-collected in the wild. This plant is apparently the same, except that it has green leaves. The size, shape and stoloniferous habit are the same, but the plant only flushes red in the center at anthesis. A very decorative plant when blooming and nice for basket culture or a terrarium anytime.
A nice, rather upright spineless plant with a pink cast to the foliage, bold creamy-white variegation and a deep red center flush at anthesis. Forms an attractive clump with many offsets on short stolons.

One of Chester Skotak’s ‘creations’. He crossed ‘Hannibal Lecter’ with ‘Tiger Cub’ and got another ‘killer’ plant! (Pun intended) Deep-green leaves are glossy-green, thick and leathery, marked with blackish bars and banding on the upper and lower sides. The leaf margins are heavily armed with large black spines. A medium grower to about 18 inches in a loose rosette.

This nice miniature by Paul Wingert is a cultivar of (‘Dartanion’ x ‘Punctate’). Small growing with broad leaves of heavy substance. Red veneer over green. The light green shows through in square, large spots that form concentric bands. Leaf tips are red.

Received quickly. Broms I ordered are good quality, and received in perfect shape.
I am very pleased with my plant. It arrived in good condition. I love the red coloration of the leaves, very beautiful !!
It’s early days. I soak all plants in distilled water for 24 hours to hydrate them rain water whe ever it’s available. Then I plant in moist media and wait till they get going.
My Pitciarnia obsession arrive with all the leaves curled in. I gave it a good watering and that didn’t help. I called Tropiflora and the woman told me to plant it in soil vs the orchid bark I planted it in. I did that and no change. See photo. I hope to get a new plant or a refund/ credit.

One of the most stunningly beautiful of Dyckias with narrow arching silvery green, sometimes even reddish leaves and massive, soft, comb-like spines in a graceful rosette. Newly published in only 2002, it is a narrow endemic species known from only one site in the southernmost Brazilian state of Rio Grade do Sul where it is native to basaltic rock outcrops in isolated mountainous interior.
Our clone came to us from Constantino Gastaldi in adjacent Santa Catarina state, from seed produced in his private collection. Because the seed are from cultivated plants, he admonishes us that it is altogether possible that they are not pure delicata. However, in our seedling crop, all plants are consistent and all “look like” what a Dyckia delicata should look like at this stage.

This Ed Edmiston hybrid is a cultivar of ‘Jet Age’ x lacerdae ‘Menescal’ having 10+ lanceolate leaves forming a medium plant to 12″ in diameter with a full round, open, flat rosette. The plants are larger than Cryptanthus lacerdae ‘Menescal,’ but lacks the long stolons. The light chocolate background leaf color is marked with silvery grey central and marginal longitudinal stripes. The bottom of the leaf is covered in a medium dense lineated white scurf.

Both parents of this Ray Lemieux cross of Hechtia lanata x myriantha have some interesting characteristics that should express themselves when the plants grow out. The seed parent, H. lanata, has broad, scurfy, twisting and curling leaves in habitat, which is a tropical desert environment on nutrient poor cliffs.
In cultivation, seedlings of this species tend to have straighter foliage, at least here in sea-level Florida. The pollen parent, H. myriantha, is a giant grower, perhaps the largest of all Hechtia species. Anecdotal stories report that this plant can reach the size of a VW Beetle! The intent of this cross was to produce a large growing hybrid with twisted foliage and silvery scurf. Only time will tell if that will happen.

Great cross. I got this specimen in July, 2021 and set it in a wide pot. So far it’s more than tripled in size and is beginning to overflow the edges of the pot (as in this picture from this past January). It’s been in full sun and doing well - the color does change here with the season (ranging from more red to more green as the angle of the sun changes), but that seems to be typical for several of my Hechtia specimens. Definitely recommend.
