Bill Timm’s hybrid of Tillandsia ionantha ‘Druid’ x ionantha v. vanhyningii, looks pretty much like a large vanhyningii. If this plant had turned out with a yellow blush instead of red, more like the ‘Druid’ parent, then this would have been a show stopper. But alas it isn’t yellow, but it is still a very nice, compact and colorful plant as you can see by the photo. 

This beautiful hybrid of (polystachia x capitata) by Steve Correale is a full rosette of recurving, light green leaves. An inflorescence with long red scape bracts and a cluster of glabrous, red-tipped green branches rises well above the foliage. 

A small upright, stoloniferous species who’s chief value is as a botanical because it lacks many decorative qualities. However, I and many others feel that a species plant doesn't have to be beautiful to be appreciated, and that little plants like this have their own charm. Makes a decorative cluster, good for hanging pot culture.

This could be the smallest species of the genus. A tiny plant with many narrow, soft spined leaves in a 2 to 3 inch rosette. The delicate inflorescence with yellow flowers in only about ten inches tall. Great for pot culture or dish gardens. Makes a dense cluster with the production of many offsets. A must for collectors.

A new nothogenera: xSincorglaziovia is a hybrid created here by Ray Lemieux of (Neoglaziovia variegata x Sincoraea albopictum) and first published in the BSI Journal, Vol. 61 (5) Sep. Oct. 2012. Ray made the cross back in 2006 and when it finally bloomed for the first time in 2011 he thought he a recreated the pineapple! The inflorescence emerging between the stiff leaves looked a lot like the inflorescence of a pineapple. Of the many seed produced, only 1/3 germinated and only a single seedling survived!

An unusual plant with half inch wide leaves in an upright rosette taper to a point. The foliage is silver-gray below and glabrous reddish-purple above in good light, with faint cross bands of silver. Marginal spines are tiny, giving a more serrated than spiny appearance. The inflorescence is a cluster of short, green branches on a short scape and the flowers light pinkish lavender with an open corolla. A terrestrial, it grows in clusters with abundant offsets.

A natural hybrid of Tillandsia gardneri x stricta. The native range of this hybrid is southeast Brazil.

This clone comes out of the (Brittle Star F2 x estevesii) x estevesii grex, but looked quite a bit different.  We thought it was a stray Orthyophytum at first. It has reddish brown foliage with hints of green, silver scurfing with large spines on recurving leaves.

A Kelly Griffin hybrid that is a compact plant with dense white teeth and rough texture. It is star shaped and form a dense cluster. Grows best in bright light. 

A nice form of this variable species which was collected by Berg and Anderson in Brazil. This form has stiff leaves, an upright, tubular shape, and the classic ’thumb-print’. The leaves are gray-green with silvery bands and the inflorescence is a compact cone with yellow flowers and bright red bracts.

An attractive and bizarrely beautiful Euphorb from Madagascar. Thick, procumbent stems bear distinctive leaf scars and inch-long, succulent, very crisped or crinkled leaves. A very flat growing, mat forming shrub with an underground caudex. Flowers or cyathea are tan to pinkish. Light exposure will determine color which can range from deep green to pinkish brown. A superb plant for container culture or rock garden. Water about weekly in warm months and allow a drier rest during cooler periods. Propagate from seed or stem cuttings.

A neat miniature, stoloniferous, clumping species that matures at less than 6 inches tall. Its gracefully curving, slightly speckled leaves form a bulbous base and a 10 inch flower spike with light red, white tipped bracts. Discovered near Parati in Rio de Janeiro state of Brazil and described in 1980, it is a native of low, wet rainforest where it grows as an epiphyte. An easy to grow yet rare collector item. Superior for terrariums.
