A large growing beauty by Stephen Hoppin can grow to a 24 inch rosette. The color is black to dark chocolate brown, glossy with wavy, silvery cross bands. Some silver shading in the leaves. Leaf tips turn downward. 'Ebony Beauty' x (x Roseus)

A neat miniature, stoloniferous, clumping species that matures at less than 6 inches tall. Its gracefully curving, slightly speckled leaves form a bulbous base and a 10 inch flower spike with light red, white tipped bracts. Discovered near Parati in Rio de Janeiro state of Brazil and described in 1980, it is a native of low, wet rainforest where it grows as an epiphyte. An easy to grow yet rare collector item. Superior for terrariums.

Formerly Orthophytum rafaelli. A stunning newly described small growing species from the Chapada Diamantina of Bahia Brazil in the vicinity of Palmeira, Serra das Paridas, Cachoeira do Mosquito. A lithophyte living is rock crevices on cliff faces, partly shaded by shrubs. The area is typical of ‘Campos Rupestres’, a seasonally dry, rocky scrubland between rocky hills and plateaus.
A plant to about ten to twelve inches across or less when grown hard, with many narrow, stiff leaves, heavily armed with large, curved spines. Green above and white below, with a heavy dusting of trichomes. Bright light brings out a red blush and the color at anthesis is cherry red with a green center and white flowers. Offsets are produced on stolons. A highly decorative species. Described in 2011 by Elton Leme and named after its discoverer Rafael de Oliveira.
Beautiful little plant. As aways.. Very happy with my purchase.

As you may be aware, Fireball is actually an undescribed species that has never been re-collected in the wild. This plant is apparently the same, except that it has green leaves. The size, shape and stoloniferous habit are the same, but the plant only flushes red in the center at anthesis. A very decorative plant when blooming and nice for basket culture or a terrarium anytime.

A Sharon Peterson hybrid of (correia-araujoi x ‘Charm’). A beauty 24 to 30 inches across with leaves nearly 4 inches wide. Leaf color is red with lots of yellow mottling throughout. Blooms with a red center. Needs fairly strong light to take on best color.

(Puya tuberosa (Baker clone) x Encholirium species #1 from Rudolph Schulz (Ray Lemieux), Spineless silvery foliage with a branching burgundy inflorescence. A nice choice for a full-sun spot in your landscape.

A beautiful undescribed species that has been in cultivation for some years with the name fragrans, unofficial but long accepted. Uniformly bronze colored with stiff, arching leaves in a 20 inch rosette, produces a simple spike of yellow fragrant flowers. A stunningly handsome plant. A prolific and easy plant to grow, thriving in full sun.

Found in the collection of Living Colors Nursery, in Florida, this sport of Cryptanthus 'Red Baron' is an albomarginated form of the plant having somewhat glossy leaves with wavy margins. The wide leaves have green mottling covered in a bright pink veneer. The undersides of the leaves have a light silver scurf. The plants flatten out at anthesis and can reach 12 to 14 inches across.
I just acquired this cryptanthus, so I can’t predict how it will grow for me, but it is even more striking than it appears in the photo, with its bright colored leaves and impressive size. I’m very pleased with my purchase!
Great plants. Great shipping. No complaints after many excellent orders. Thank you
I hope it grows to the size that I thought it would be when it arrived.
One of the best cryptanthus that I have purchased from Tropiflora. Large beautiful red edged leaves with olive green centers.
I love Cryptanthus and lean toward the most colorful varieties. I think "Living Colors" now tops my list for color, after "Elaine". I also enjoy the contrast of the varieties that are dark with silver bands. In container gardens on my lanai, I mingle various Bromeliads and Succulents (very compatible!). I often use the "pot in pot" approach where I leave the C. in its pot and tuck it into surrounding plants that camouflage the inner pot. Pictured: Living Colors takes prime, bottom center position when mingled with varied plants.

Both parents of this Ray Lemieux cross of Hechtia lanata x myriantha have some interesting characteristics that should express themselves when the plants grow out. The seed parent, H. lanata, has broad, scurfy, twisting and curling leaves in habitat, which is a tropical desert environment on nutrient poor cliffs.
In cultivation, seedlings of this species tend to have straighter foliage, at least here in sea-level Florida. The pollen parent, H. myriantha, is a giant grower, perhaps the largest of all Hechtia species. Anecdotal stories report that this plant can reach the size of a VW Beetle! The intent of this cross was to produce a large growing hybrid with twisted foliage and silvery scurf. Only time will tell if that will happen.

Great cross. I got this specimen in July, 2021 and set it in a wide pot. So far it’s more than tripled in size and is beginning to overflow the edges of the pot (as in this picture from this past January). It’s been in full sun and doing well - the color does change here with the season (ranging from more red to more green as the angle of the sun changes), but that seems to be typical for several of my Hechtia specimens. Definitely recommend.

An as yet unnamed cross of Neoregelia ‘Rio Ocher’ x olens ‘Vulcan’ is an apple green plant with a vivid red center flush at anthesis. The inch and a half wide leaves are somewhat thick and leathery and the marginal spines are small. It develops some red cross-banding on the leaves which become more pronounced with strong light or when grown “harder”. Offsets are on short stolons and the plant is good for mounting and for terrarium use.

A clone of the species collected by our friends Wally Berg and John Anderson in Chapada Diamantina, Brazil, is as different as night from day when compared to the clonotype. This plant is an upright vase to almost bottle shaped plant with wide leathery leaves, heavily spined, and dusted with a thick layer of silvery trichomes. Hard grown it can grow into a very squat, vase shape. An extremely handsome plant!

A spectacular variegated chimera of ospinae v. gruberi. Upright growth of green mottled leaves have bold white variegation running up the length. Within the variegation the mottling is red giving the pattern a sharp contrast which makes it stand out. An exceptional clone of an exceptional species!
I previously purchased this plant two years ago. My first purchase was a test. I hope the five that I just purchased, also thrive
