Tillandsia xiphioides Large Form
351
This is a large-growing form of one of the most beautiful of all fragrant flowered Tillandsias. Reaching 8 or more with stiff, thickly succulent, dark grayish-green leaves, in a loose, few leaved rosette. The inflorescence is a feather-shaped spike bearing a series of really large ruffled, white, deeply fragrant flowers. The fragrance is similar to that of a gardenia. This rare form comes from Bolivia.
Tillandsia [compressa x (capitata 'Peach' x fasciculata)]
7750
This Tillandsia is a Bird Rock Tropicals hybrid, still unnamed as far as we can ascertain. A complex cross of [compressa x (capitata 'Peach' x fasciculata)] it has an open rosette shape with many stiff, silvery leaves to about twenty inches long forming a 30-inch rosette.
The inflorescence is a tight head of fat branches, glossy pinkish-red though we suspect our first bloom was not in fullest potential color. Flowers blue.

Tillandsias (Air Plants) by the Pound
This was my second three pound order. I thought that with so many plants I could cull twenty to fifty percent of them and still get a bargain. So far I haven’t culled any. Some are better than others, but all of them are keepers. I’ve never been disappointed with a Tropiflora order.
Excellent value!
The buy 2 get one free deal on tillandsia by the pound is a great deal. Got lots of beautiful pleants.
Tropiflora Bromeliad Mix
TBM
This is a commercial mix that we at Tropiflora have custom made 50 yards at a time. We use this formula because #1 it works for us and #2 it is economical.
Anyone can mix their own potting media and we encourage you to do so in order to best suit your needs. However, if you wish to use our proven mix, we are more than happy to oblige!
Here is the formulation:
- 30% Canadian Peat
- 30% Green Bark
- 30% Hardwood Chips
- 10% Perlite (though this can vary with availability of materials).
It also includes 3 pounds of minor elements per yard and has a pH level of 6.0 to 6.5. This mix allows good air access to the root zone, good moisture retention without getting soggy, long pot life, and good substance for holding plants upright.
Note: A one quarter cubic foot bag of soil should fill about half a dozen 6 inch Azalea Pots.
Super quick draining mix that holds humidity well while maintaining root ventilation. Reccomend for any bromeliad growers.
I'm very new to bromeliads, and just re-potted a few I purchased at Tropiflora. They all seem very happy in their new digs.

Tropiflora Succulent Mix
TSM
Tropiflora Succulent Mix – While we call this our ‘succulent mix’ we use this for many more things around the nursery. Succulents thrive in it under our rather wet, humid conditions and so do many plants such as terrestrial bromeliads, tuberous Arums, and others. It is a good quality mix that we have custom made for us in 50 yard loads.
The formula is:
- 20% Canadian Peat
- 45% small Fir Bark
- 35% coarse Perlite (Sponge Rock)
It has a pH of 6.0.
I started using this mix about 3 years ago and love it. It was time for me to repot many of my plants that I had learned were succulents. When I recycled the soil that I was using, I mixed the succulent mix with the recycled soil and my plants love it. They are healthier; leaves are stronger and brighter: and the flowers seem to bloom longer. I started using it for all my plants and trees. The mix adds the extra nutrients and lightens the soil for oxygen. Try it and you will continue using it and experimenting with it as I did.
Vriesea correia-araujoi
1006
A neat miniature, stoloniferous, clumping species that matures at less than 6 inches tall. Its gracefully curving, slightly speckled leaves form a bulbous base and a 10 inch flower spike with light red, white tipped bracts. Discovered near Parati in Rio de Janeiro state of Brazil and described in 1980, it is a native of low, wet rainforest where it grows as an epiphyte. An easy to grow yet rare collector item. Superior for terrariums.
Vriesea sucrei x bleherae
4862
A nice little hybrid that is as yet unnamed, but still nice. A very full 12 inch rosette of half-inch wide, discolor leaves, green on top and purple below. The inflorescence, which is about 20 inches tall, is lance-shaped and light yellow. Nice for small space shaded gardens or terrariums.

x Billmea 'Rosebud'
7458
Ben Sill’s intergeneric hybrid is a cultivar of Billbergia pyramidalis x Aechmea recurvata and it keeps the best characteristics of both parents. The overall shape of the plant is that of an Ae. recurvata, with fairly stiff, pointed leaves forming a slightly bulbous, vase shape. As typical with Ae. recurvata, the center whorl of leaves shortens before anthesis and frames the inflorescence in a whorl of short, broad, pointed leaves, but there is no leaf blush at anthesis. The inflorescence is a good copy of the Bil. pyramidalis parent, with brilliant red flowers and scurfy red bracts. The upside is that the inflorescence lasts longer than the Billbergia parent. All in all a really interesting, colorful plant.
*VIPP plants are Offsets
I really like the mix of the beauty of the billbergia pyramidalis combined with the long lasting bloom of the Aechmea. I grow it in Tennessee where it has to come inside my house during the winter. It produces lots of pups, so is a great value.
x Dyckcohnia 'Red Bull'
2150
A bi-generic hybrid by Bryan Windham. Thick green recurving leaves with pronounced spines. Mature size 20 inches across. grows best in bright filtered light.
