A marginated clone of (carolinae variegated x carolinae ‘red form’) x gigas Skotak/Nahoum. Wide leaves form a full rosette to about 30 inches across. The dark chestnut-burgundy color of the leaves sets off the brilliant pink marginal variegation. A beautiful, vividly colored plant.

A miniature hybrid by Lisa Vinzant. Light green with chocolate red bars and bands. In bright filtered light a veneer of dark red covers the leaves. Matures at 8 inches across. Grows best in a hanging pot in bright filtered light.

A new Chester Skotak release for 2012 was actually a cultivar of (Punctate Red x Hannibal Lector) that Chester made in 2002. A plant reminiscent of N. ampullacea in general size and shape, that has a pattern of reddish bars over a yellowish green base color above and reddish below. The marginal spines are quite stout and black and the leaf tips are apiculate.

A good terrarium plant and forms a nice cluster in a pot or basket. Named in honor of the late Ed Prince, a prominent bromeliad collector from Miami.

This beautiful hybrid from the hand of the late Jim Elmore is a cultivar of cruenta (rubra) x chlorosticta Hyb. #418'. Trying to achieve colorful plants that do not need to be in bloom to be at their best, this is one of his success stories. A medium to large green plant with a symmetrical shape of stiff leaves, bearing a net-like pattern of red. The mottled pattern is very evident, but very delicate.

A Chester Skotak release from 2012.  A little plant only about 5 inches tall and 6 inches across with inch-wide leaves of light green, albomarginated with white. With maturity the plant develops a magenta red color half way up the leaves, long before anthesis, with the magenta color on both sides of the leaves.

Little rosettes form on six inch stolons, spreading out horizontally, eventually forming a large cluster. Depending upon light and fertilizer levels, the plants will be reddish-green to bright red. Less fertilizer and more light brings out maximum color.

This miniature species has never been properly classified but remains an extremely popular plant. Outstanding in hanging baskets, in landscape and in terrariums.

Neoregelia ‘Fireball’ x chlorosticta  A showy, small grower to about 10 inches across in an open rosette, with light green leaves bearing red tips and a blotchy veneer of deep red.

A variegated clone of Neoregelia cruenta ‘Sun King’ that was found in the beachside restinga of Rio de Janeiro. A beautiful stiff-leaved upright wide-leaved rosette with red-tipped green leaves, turning yellow in strong light, with yellowish variegation. A real stunner and still on the rare side.

This highly speckled Neo is a small grower and an attractive addition to any collection. A Carrone hybrid of (Neo. ‘Black Knight’ x ‘Vulcan’), it is mature at about 6 to 8 inches in a compact, somewhat upright rosette. Good windowsill plant for size and light requirements.

A large growing hybrid that starts off green when young and develops a red veneer with spots of yellow. Matures at 24 inches across. Grows best in bright filtered light.
