A hybrid of (caput-medusae x balbisiana) definitely leaning more to the T. caput-medusae parent.  A bulbous base with long and twisting leaves that are more terete than flat. 

The inflorescence is a cluster of bright red branches on a short scape.  The plant is silvery with trichomes, but has a reddish blush in strong light and at anthesis. 

A suspected natural hybrid of (aeranthos x bergeri) that turned up in a shipment of bergeri from Argentina many years ago. A caulescent plant with stiff, gray leaves on a 6 inch stem, branching freely and forming large clusters. 

The inflorescence is a 3 to 4 inch long scape with deep rose pink bracts and dark, inky blue flowers. There are other Tillandsias of the same cross, but this one is quite different, deserving its own name.

A small lithophytic, clustering plant to about 2 inches, with short, stiff and rather succulent, dark gray leaves. Widely flaring, half inch pink flowers are borne on a short scape in small clusters. We’ve seen grapefruit sized clusters of this species growing on rocky cliffs in Bolivia, covered with pink flowers. In cultivation it enjoys growing mounted and kept in bright light with good air circulation. Allow to dry quickly after watering.

A large robust species with thick, leathery leaves is a rock dweller from central Mexico. Reddish foliage in an open rosette and a showy, tall inflorescence of orange. A choice plant that is easy to grow and can be potted or mounted.

A natural hybrid of (flexuosa x funckiana) that we collected in Venezuela in the late 1990’s. This plant is from a completely different area than the one described by Gouda in 2002, but it likely would be considered the same taxa. Our plant is from the state of Carabobo on the old road from Valencia to Puerto Cabello, a long distance from the Merida locality of the other. We found ours growing on a rock, in light forest in partial shade. The Tillandsia flexuosa and funckiana in this area are quite different looking than the ones near Merida which is much higher in altitude and much drier.

An interesting plant with long, stiff leaves along a caulescent stem, silvery green in color, clump forming. The inflorescence is a thin scape no higher than the foliage, with large flowers of deep rose red that are tubular with flaring petals that recurve at the tips. A very interesting plant that leaves no doubt about its hybrid origins.

Tillandsia 'Redy' (streptophylla x concolor) acquired from Paul Isley. A large, colorful blooming Tillandsia that was named to honor Rainforest Flora retail nursery manager, Redy Bond. This is a stunning hybrid that was originally made by Dr. Mark Dimmitt. The numerous leaves often form a circular, windmill pattern. A real “stunner” as the Aussies would say. 

A species with long very thin, grassy leaves, that are stiff, succulent and form a spreading, funnelform rosette. Closely resembling Tillandsia hammeri, it differs in being larger, more spreading, less silvery and stoloniferous. The inflorescence has more and wider branches but is more compact and taller, among other differences. Native to limestone outcrops near Nizanda, Oaxaca, Mexico, it was first collected by Ehlers and only described in 2016. The many leaves form an upright rosette to nearly two feet tall with an erect inflorescence of pink bracts and deep violet flowers.

Found near Rio Grande, Bolivia, this form seems to have straighter leaves than the typical duratii. The inflorescence is simple but bears many very large purple flowers. The fragrance is strong and a single specimen can perfume an entire garden. Does not root as an adult, so it must be attached with glue or wires to a mount. Best results may come from suspending the plant from a string or wire and hanging it in a bright airy spot.

Easiest of all the fragrant Tillandsias to cultivate.

This hybrid by Bill Timm is a cultivar of (capitata ‘Domingensis’ x ‘Casallena’). A medium to large plant with an upright, flaring vase shape. The leaves are long and taper from about a half inch wide to a slender tip and are green with a somewhat blotchy purple veneer, coated with silver trichomes.

The inflorescence is taller than the leaves with long, leaf-like scape bracts and a large cluster of glossy, deep red braches held upright, and dark blue flowers. An handsome plant!

A probable cross of (duratii x stricta). A rosette-shaped plant with narrow, stiff, silvery-gray, succulent leaves spanning 16 inches. The inflorescence is an arching, branched panicle, purple in color with open, purplish flowers that have a fragrance similar to the duratii parent, but not as strong.

A natural hybrid of ixioides x bergeri from Argentina, with many stiff, silvery-gray, arching leaves in a tall rosette. The tall inflorescence is erect with tan to light pink, dry bracts like the ixioides parent and light blue, flaring flowers with twisted petals like the bergeri parent. Is hardy and very easy to grow, producing many offsets.
