Paul Isley's cross 'Kendra' is a cultivar of bulbosa x baileyi. A vigorous hybrid that looks a bit like the baileyi parent but is much larger and more robust. The bulbous base is like that of the bulbosa and the terete leaves are silvery and sinuous. The inflorescence is quite tall, at least as long as the leaves and it branched, pinkish, with a silvery finish. Grows to about 18 inches tall, taller than either parent plant.

This plant is the same cross by Steve Correale; chiapensis x botterii, as ‘Mixtec Treasure’ but is a different clone. Similar in size, it is a fairly large plant to over twelve inches tall with silvery leaves can blush slightly reddish and that taper to fine points forming a graceful vase shaped rosette that spreads at anthesis.
The inflorescence up to seven long branches and is taller than the foliage, with a central branch longer than the others. All branches are slightly secund towards the tips. The color is red on the bottom half of the branches fading to yellow on top. A coat of silver trichomes tones down the colors to pink and yellow, very attractive.

We collected just one of these plants back in the 1990’s in Sumidero Canyon, Chiapas, Mexico where it lives on vertical cliffs along with other interesting species like T. vanhynningii. Since then we nursed it along until we built up a still very small stock. This is a choice plant with an open rosette of many very stiff, narrow, silvery leaves and a lax inflorescence of pink branches. Very slow growing, but worth the wait.

An early hybrid (1960’s) by Charles Wiley is a cultivar of (seleriana x bulbosa). The cross was made in Eastern Germany and is a relic of the Cold War era. Aside from this, the plant is a handsome combination of both parents. More bulbosa-like it is however stouter with more leaves and has a slight scurff unlike the bulbosa parent. The inflorescence is a short rachis with red branches and a corresponding blush in the upper leaves at anthesis.

This plant has not yet been published but has been in cultivation for a while under the name of Tillandsia cocoensis.
In correspondence with Eric Gouda he says that this plant is most likely a form of T. tenuifolia and will likely be published as T. tenuifolia var. cocoensis by Renate Ehlers, hopefully in the near future. It was discovered growing on the cliffs of Morro do Coco in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil where it forms mats of plants with procumbent stems and stiff, silvery leaves. The flowers are slightly violet-white, borne on a short red scape with bright red bracts.
A cute and easy to grow species that blooms faithfully. Our plants came originally from the collection of the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens with the accession number of SEL91-0099A.

A hybrid of (fasciculata x concolor) by Steve Correale is the reverse cross of ‘Silver Sword’, larger and not as stiff leaved and having a branched rather than simple inflorescence.
A nice silvery, fasciculata-type plant with a branched inflorescence, typically three-branches but not always. The inflorescence is rather inflated with long, lanceolate branches, pink at the bottom, transitioning to green at the top. Really a nice looking plant.
A fairly large hybrid by Luis Ariza, (brachycaulos x fasciculata), to about 10 to 16 inches with many leaves in a spreading rosette. The leaves are somewhat softer than a fasciculata and dusted with silvery scurf. The inflorescence is a cluster of short red branches on a red scape, with long scape bracts that blush reddish too. The flowers are exceptionally long, tubular and light bluish purple. An easy grower that does well mounted.

A cultivar of (ionantha v. vanhyningii x ionantha ‘Druid’) by Bill Timm. A plant that can resemble the ionantha v. vanhyningii parent with thick leaves on a caulescent stem or can be more upright. The leaves blush reddish with blue flowers at anthesis. A nice hybrid that forms clusters of plants.

An apparent natural hybrid of (streptophylla x paucifolioides) named by Bill Timm. Bulbous based with pinkish-tinted, silvery leaves that curl inward or are deeply channeled, and an inflorescence of silvery branches and pink scape bracts. Very attractive.

This plant from Bolivia has a good possibility of being a new species. However, for now, we are offering it as a ’giant form’ of vernicosa, a species to which it is most similar. The leaves are very stiff and many in an 8 to 12 inch rosette, dark greenish bronze with a beautiful multi-branched inflorescence of pinkish orange with small white flowers. The colorful inflorescence lasts for several months. The regular form of this plant is 4 to 6 inches and by comparison this form is a true giant.
