A large growing, robust species of Hechtia from Tlapa, Guerrero, Mexico. Native to rocky slopes in hot, sparsely vegetated scrub forests where the sun is intense. A large grower with arching leaves bearing wicked marginal spines, silvery green and blushing with bright red ‘blood spots’ at the base of each spine when grown hard and bright.
This form, ‘Mr. Freckles’ has especially bright red coloration when grown hard. In cultivation it is not as easy to replicate this color unless much feeding and water is withheld.
