This is one of the most unusual and beautiful of all Pitcairnias. Much sought, it is a rare plant from southern Mexico. Forming a wide rosette of broad, spatulate leaves with a cluster of red flowers in the center.
Rarely seen in cultivation, it has a reputation for being a bit fussy, requiring clean water above all. Does not like to be dried out but does not like to be too moist either. A bit of a challenge but well worth the effort.
