A species from the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean. Without a bloom it would look like a clump of grass, with narrow, light green leaves in a thick cluster. The inflorescence is a tall reddish scape, sometimes branched, bearing many flowers with orange sepals and red petals. Showy in bloom. Our plants came from a collection made by Jason Grant near Playa Grande, East of Rio San Juan, Dominican Republic. Not often seen in cultivation. Selby accession number; SEL1999-0133.
