Formerly a Wittrockia, it was reassigned by Leme in 2000 in his revision of Nidularium. This denizen of the Rio de Janeiro area of Brazil is a soft leaved, shade-loving plant of wet lowland forests. Forming a 24 inch rosette of many narrow green leaves, its only real color comes at anthesis when long, orange-tipped bracts form around a nested inflorescence bearing yellow tipped flowers. One for the collectors.
