A fairly new species in what until recently had been a monotypic genus. This species is larger than N. variegata, with broader leaves reaching over 4 ft long, but still keeping a similar habit. The foliage is heavily armed with large spines, and is a brownish-green. The inflorescence is a handsome cylindrical head of flowers with red bracts and purple petals, on a tall scape. A rare plant in cultivation. Offsets only, due to the length of the leaves. Rare.
