A warm growing epiphyte from the Amazon basin, found from Colombia to Guiana and Brazil to Peru in lowland, wet forests. An upright-growing, tubular plant with leaves somewhat petiolate, which are deeply pigmented or spotted with dark blackish-brown at the base in most clones.
The inflorescence is a white scape with rose-pink bracts, usually branched or sometimes simple, with triangular branches bearing yellow flowers. Not common in nature, in spite of being widely spread over the Amazon basin.
