A Mark Dimmitt hybrid is a cultivar of (aeranthos x ‘Houston’). It resembles the species stricta, with stiff, narrow, green leaves in a bushy rosette. A nice clump forming plant that has contrasting pink bracts and blue flowers on its inflorescence.

A hybrid of (bulbosa x streptophylla) by Mark Dimmitt. This interesting plant could be described as a larger bulbosa-type plant with broader, more twisted leaves. Or, as a streptophylla-type plant with shiny and deeply channeled leaves. In other words, a good split of characteristics of both parents.
This hybrid is sometimes found as a natural cross in Guatemala. Grows well mounted, easily forming large clusters of plants.
Received the plant in a timely manner, it was a nice size and as always I’m happy with my Tropiflora purchase.

A fine-leaved caulescent species from Central America always found growing in clumps. The foliage tints reddish in strong light and the simple red spike produces pretty yellow flowers. Grows well hanging from a string where it will form massive clusters in time. Tillandsia schiedeana minor is one of three commonly recognized forms of schiedeana. Found growing in clusters of several plants up to even hundreds. In full light the plants take on a reddish cast and when in bloom, the whole colony is a mass of red spikes and yellow flowers. Very attractive. Single plants are caulescent, up to 8′, and have fine 3′ leaves. Will form an attractive clump in a few seasons. Grow mounted, bright and airy.

This cross was genius, or maybe dumb luck, but at any rate it ended up fantastic. A cross of (fasciculata x flagellata) by Chester Skotak, it blends two of the best Tillandsias out there. Ecuadorean T. flagellata is itself a gem, with many narrow, soft leaves in a gracefully arching rosette. The inflorescence is brilliant red. This hybrid takes all the best of that species and blends it with the vigor of fasciculata and the robust bloom of both. Beautiful but slow, but like all good things, worth waiting for.

This species from Oaxaca, Mexico is nothing short of spectacular in nature where it grows in large colonies in the tops of seaside thorn-scrub forest. Brilliant orange-red is the most common color with vivid yellow inflorescences shining in full sun.
Full sun or bright light along with reducing watering during the dry season and reducing the amount of fertilizer may help duplicate its harsh native environment and bring out stronger colors. Does not like cold! Keep warm at all times if possible.

A hybrid of (concolor x roland-gosselinii) by Bill Timm. A knock out with broad, stiff, recurving leaves in a full rosette. The color is silvery with a reddish blush in strong light. The inflorescence is branched, not too tall, and yellow. An extremely nice plant!

A spectacular plant that came to us as jalisco-monticola from our friend Steve Correale in Miami. It looks like this species but the foliage is dramatically stiffer and of thicker texture. The inflorescence is a simple spike, thickly inflated and light green with peach coloration at the bottom. A powdery ‘bloom’ gives the inflorescence a glaucous look. An excellent form that is a slow grower, but does not have any special requirements.

A fairly large hybrid by Luis Ariza, (brachycaulos x fasciculata), to about 10 to 16 inches with many leaves in a spreading rosette. The leaves are somewhat softer than a fasciculata and dusted with silvery scurf. The inflorescence is a cluster of short red branches on a red scape, with long scape bracts that blush reddish too. The flowers are exceptionally long, tubular and light bluish purple. An easy grower that does well mounted.

An Australian hybrid of (concolor x ionantha) by Margaret Paterson. A robust plant with many stiff, pointed leaves in an 8 to 10 inch rosette. The leaf color is light green with a dusting of silvery trichomes. There is no color blush at anthesis in spite of the ionantha parentage, but rather it produces a very short but very full and branchy inflorescence with red bracts and bluish-purple flowers.
A choice, easy to cultivate plant.

A cultivar of (ionantha v. vanhyningii x ionantha ‘Druid’) by Bill Timm. A plant that can resemble the ionantha v. vanhyningii parent with thick leaves on a caulescent stem or can be more upright. The leaves blush reddish with blue flowers at anthesis. A nice hybrid that forms clusters of plants.
