This is a new and spectacular plant. Please note that this plant is not yet published. There is currently a taxa called Vriesea altomayoensis, H. Luther & K. Norton, but it does not have anything in common with the plant we are offering. The two plants are both named for the locality where found and there is no relation at all. We point this out only because the Tillandsia is not yet published, and the name may be somewhat confusing.

All that said, it’s a beauty. The leaves are many in an 8-inch rosette, silvery over green. They are fairly stiff but not as stiff as, say, a T. fasciculata. The inflorescence is about eight inches tall, maybe more, with eight to ten branches. The branches are linear-lanceolate in shape, about three inches long and about a half inch wide, bright orange with white flowers. Forms clusters of plants on short stolons after anthesis. Prefers cooler conditions and pure water.
