A rare and obscure species of Bromelia that might at first glance make you think of an Orthophytum. An open rosette shape of many narrow, tapering, spiny, bronzy-green leaves to about 18 inches across or less. The marginal spines are rather large and typical of the genus Bromelia, point in both directions. At anthesis the center blushes cherry red with a cottony-white inflorescence nested in the center. Flowers are pink magenta and are edged in white. Known only from the vicinity of the type locality; Serra dos Pirineus in the state of Goias, Brazil. A very showy and rare plant.
