This is a very choice species that we got from our friend Henrique Graf in Venezuela many years ago. He had a nice collection of Rhipsalis that were growing on tree fern fiber logs suspended from his porch roof. One in particular was a bright red species with broad, oblong stem segments. A few fruits collected grew well and in a few years we had this plant in flower. The flowers are numerous, yellowish with white filaments and nicely fragrant. We have found that this plant will take on its beautiful red coloration here if grown a bit ‘hard’ in strong light, but it is slow growing. We think this plant is possibly a form of R. pachyptera, and it has been referred to as obovata, but cannot be sure.
