This is a large and fairly spectacular landscape bromeliad that was made by Chester Skotak quite a few years ago. A cultivar of (chantinii x poitaei), it is an upright, funnel form rosette to about three feet tall and wide, with 3 inch wide, light green leaves that tint red toward the tips in strong light.
A late fall to early winter bloomer, it has a bright red inflorescence about 24 inches tall and 5 inches wide with many showy red bracts and dozens of short branches. The inflorescence becomes very heavy with age and may need to be staked to keep it erect. A great plant with potential for landscape use in warm areas.
