Native to the Atlantic Forest of Brazil, and known only from the type collection in Espirito Santo state. Without flowers this plant resembles R. puniceodiscus with thin, terete stems that hang laxly to five feet or so. The most distinctive character of this species is the carmine red flowers followed by bright red fruit, a suspected indication of hummingbird pollination. In all ways as easy to cultivate as most typical Rhipsalis species.
