A showy miniature species to about 10 inches tall with upright growth, bronzy-green leaves and a bright inflorescence. The bracts are upright, bright red and the petals are red as well. In cultivation these are great little plants for limited space.
Although they appear soft and delicate, in nature they occur as lithophytes on rocky outcrops of the high altitude grasslands of the Serra do Mar which runs along the southeastern coast of Brazil. In nature the leaves are stiff and yellowish, tough for a life of exposure in full sun. In cultivation it likes bright conditions.
