A clonotype of this species, native to Bahia, Brazil, from the collection of Elton Leme. This is the standard for the species. The leathery leaves are glabrous, with only a dusting of trichomes, dark brownish green with darker mottling and moderate spines, getting reddish in strong light. The plant will take on a somewhat bottle shape with maturity.
