An attractive stem succulent from the dry, rocky, scrublands of North Eastern Africa. The stems are leafless, four or five angled with thick spines along the margins. The color is light green to glaucous with flowers borne is spherical clusters of up to 40 or so, almost black, carrion scented flowers.
Note that this species has been known as Caralluma speciosa and C. retrospeciosa.
