Sometimes referred to as the Mexican Grass Tree or Sotol. When someone sees one of these for the first time, their reaction is usually “Wow! What is that?” A native of northeastern Mexico that forms a round trunk covered with thin, straw-like green leaves forming a giant sphere. Hard to explain but uniquely beautiful. Very old specimens can grow to nearly ten feet tall with a crown of leaves 8 feet or more in diameter, but it takes many, many years to reach that size. An outstanding drought tolerant landscape plant that is reportedly cold hardy down to 15 degrees.
