This Carole Richtmyer hybrid is a cultivar of 'Ebony Beauty' x 'Clyde Jackson' having 7+ linear-lanceolate leaves maturing to 18 inches in diameter with an open oval shape. Brown-black in color, the leaves are marked with an edge to edge barring which slightly fades. At maturity and near anthesis the barring bleeds together remaining only distinct at the edges and leaf tip. The leaf edges are slightly wavy and crisped with the leaf tip twisting slightly to reveal the medium dense scurf of the underside. Named in honor of The Cryptanthus Society Journal editor and Caloosahatchee Bromeliad Society member, Dr. Larry Giroux.
