This is a beautiful helicoid species from an undisclosed locality in Colombia. Obtained from another bromeliad importer years ago by Eloise Beach, it was sent to the Smithsonian where it was subsequently described as a new species and named in her honor.

A tall, tubular species with stiff gray-green leaves, heavily banded with silvery white. The inflorescence is pendant, very large with showy pink bracts and large green flowers with the ‘clock spring’ petals that give the subgenus its name. A choice, rare species.
