A beautiful and robust species from Chiapas, Mexico. Similar in some aspects to Tillandsia fasciculata var. fasciculata to which it is certainly closely related, it is maintained as a distinct species nonetheless. Having a bumpy and confused start including a name change by Matuda and being mis-assigned to the wrong subfamily by Lyman Smith, it remains a species of taxonomic contention. Found only in the vicinity of Sumidero Canyon, it lives mainly as a lithophyte on canyon walls, forming clusters of several to many plants. The foliage is stiff, narrowly triangular, greenish above and silvery below and up to two feet long. The inflorescence is taller than the rosette, erect at first and bearing up to a dozen narrow, bright yellow branches and blue-violet flowers. A choice species that is not very commonly available.

This hybrid is by Pam Koide of Bird Rock Topicals. It is an upright growing plant to 16 inches and has a branched, lanceolate inflorescence of red. It is easy to grow and maintains it red foliage color year round.

A pretty plant that grows caulescent clusters, with wide, stiff, silvery-white leaves. The inflorescence is a simple thin red spike. Native to central Mexico. Can be cultivated in a basket, mounted or hanging from a wire or string. Likes bright light and good air circulation. This clone is much smaller than the normal form.

A complete unknown. This lovely plant has been growing in our collection for at least 20 years without an identification. A long, leafy, almost fasciculata looking plant that produces striking yellow-orange multi-branched inflorescence.

A gorgeous xerographica x streptophylla hybrid by Steve Correale. Sturdy silver leaves are slightly shorter than xerographica and scurfy. Blushes pink when grown in strong light. The bloom is large and showy with 8-12 bracts.

This plant is on C.I.T.E.S. due to the obvious xerographica parent.

An impressive hybrid of Tillandsia fasciculata x ionantha by Mark Dimmitt. 

A large-growing clone of the species with very dense leaves and a sizably larger bloom. Real nice.

The Florida native form of this widespread species which has a range that runs from Florida and the Bahamas to Northern South America. An upright, tubular, vase-shaped plant with broadly tapering, spiraled leaves. The color is brownish-green with a coating of silver trichomes that normally forms in bands. The inflorescence is tall, thin and usually branched, normally green in Florida, but can be reddish sometimes. The flowers are arranged at right angles and are rosy/pink. Often a twig epiphyte in nature, it is easy to grow mounted. Keep warm, (above 40's) as this is an especially tropical species that in Florida is restricted to the southern Everglades and coastal regions of South Florida.

A small plant with grayish silver leaves in an upright rosette. It is clustering and has a short scape with bright pink bracts and yellowish flowers.

A very attractive Colombian species with a showy spike of inflated branches of bright orange-red, that persists for some months. Growing to about 10in with dark green foliage in an upright rosette. Easy to grow, thriving potted in an orchid-type mix or mounted.
