This is a plant that we collected near Riachinho, Bahia, Brazil in the Chapada Diamantina.  We were for some time convinced that this plant was Orthophytum sanguineum but when the Orthophytum genus was reexamined by Louzada and Wanderley this taxa was shifted to Sincoraea and combined with S. burlemarxii.  We are disappointed with this outcome as the plant does appear to us to be quite different but alas we must abide with the taxonomists for now.  The leaves are narrow, reddish and banded with whitish trichomes.  The inflorescence is narrower than what we consider typical burlemarxii, with red flora bracts and white flowers.  There is a deeper or brighter red flush with anthesis.
