A rare species described only in 2007 by Leme and Siquiera, native to the remnants of the Atlantic Forest of northern Bahia, Brazil. The type specimen was collected at approximately 2,000 feet of altitude on Serra da Boa Vista where this plant grows as a forest epiphyte high in the trees.

A rather giant grower that is related to Neo. gigas, this plant forms a funnel form rosette to over 30 inches across with leaves over 4 inches wide with apiculate tips. The color is medium green with dark green mottling, red leaf tips and red marginal spines and a red leaf edge. The whole plant is white to brownish lepidote, or bearing a distinctive coating of trichomes, heavier on the undersides. The inflorescence is a broad head bearing white flowers which appear to be self sterile. A spectacular plant with an architectural shape. Very rare in cultivatiion.
