This plant is a descendent of a wild collected plant that came to us in the 1990s with Tillandsia ionantha v. van-hyningii . Our best guess is that this plant could be a natural hybrid of (ionantha v. van-hyningii x chiapensis) even though we can’t be sure of course. Both species are dominant in crosses but in this case it looks like the ionantha v. van-hyningii is the stronger. ‘Charmer’ looks more like a giant ionantha v. van-hyningii than anything else. Larger, with leaves a bit stiffer but still with the basic van-hyningii shape of a caulescent plant with many short leaves on a long stem. At anthesis the plant blushes deep pink with a short scape of pink with inky-blue flowers. A nice plant in every way.
