This plant is a descendent of a wild collected plant that came to us in the 1990s with Tillandsia ionantha v. vanhyningii . Our best guess is that this plant could be a natural hybrid of (ionantha v. vanhyningii x chiapensis) even though we can’t be sure of course. Both species are dominant in crosses but in this case it looks like the ionantha v. vanhyningii is the stronger. ‘Charmer’ looks more like a giant ionantha v. vanhyningii than anything else. Larger, with leaves a bit stiffer but still with the basic ionantha v. vanhyningii shape of a caulescent plant with many short leaves on a long stem. At anthesis the plant blushes deep pink with a short scape of pink with inky-blue flowers. A nice plant in every way.
