A choice plant which has a resemblance to P. brevicaule, being a rather globular caudex, wide and flat and not very tall. Short, stout, spiny branches emerge form the body of the caudex and bear the rather narrow foliage. The flowers, born on tall scapes, are dark yellow with white throats. Native to rocky ground in the Makay Mountains of Tulear Province in Madagascar.
