A choice species from Sudan that forms a thick, pachycaul trunk that can reach nearly three feet tall. The trunk is light tan with short but stout spines in pairs. Tiny flowers appear at the tops of the stems, before the leaves. The leaves are borne in whorls at the top of the stem and are very succulent and leathery, medium green, blushing reddish in sun, with lighter veining. This species may remind one of a Pachypodium when small. Easy to grow under ‘normal’ succulent conditions, in well drained soil and bright light to full sun.
