A medium sized, upright, open vase-shaped rosette with fairly stiff leaves that are dusted with trichomes. The inflorescence is showy, a cylindrical spike of ‘match stick’ flowers of bright orange with blue petals.

A large showy hybrid, possibly made by Mulford Foster and a likely cross of (Androlepis skinneri x Aechmea distichantha v. schlumbergeri) though there is no absolute record. A showy, large, robust and hardy plant. Stiff, reddish, sword-like leaves form a funnel-shaped rosette up to 4 feet tall, with an inflorescence of pink-tipped, white berries. Blushes deep red in sun or strong light and makes an outstanding, fairly cold hardy landscape subject.
