A smallish species of Tillandsia that grows on a long stem. The narrow, stiff leaves are 2 to 3 inches long spaced along the stem and taper to a point. The overall color is dark purplish with a silvery tint. The inflorescence is a 2 inch scape with bright pink bracts and flaring blue flowers. Clumps are easily formed and once a clump forms, the plants can be suspended from a string for cultivation.
Native to Rio Grande do Sul in Southern Brazil, it has a strong resemblance to T. aeranthos though it must be significantly different enough to deserve species status. Our plants came originally from the collection of Elton Leme.

New customer to Tropiflora
I received my first order from Tropiflora today. I ordered 14 airplants, and all 14 were winners. They were packed in foil with a heating pack since they were traveling through cold weather from Florida to California. A choice hybrid from Mark Dimmit is an unusual cross of (roseoscapa x bulbosa). Taking characteristics of both parents, it has an upright vase shape with a somewhat bulbous base. Grown 'hard' the bulbous base is more pronounced. The leaves are many, semi-terete, slightly undulating and green with a light gray scurf. The inflorescence is tall with long, leaf-like scape bracts that blush pink and a cluster of six or so fairly long, upright pink branches. Flowers are light blue. A large growing and spectacular hybrid by John Arden is a cultivar of (jalisco monticola x roland-gosselinii). A graceful, arching rosette of narrow, silvery leaves, reaching over 24 inches in diameter. The inflorescence is a tall scape to over 2 feet tall, with a cluster of inflated branches, red on the bottom becoming green on top. Very showy and long lasting in bloom.
A newer cyanea hybrid. Grows to a height of 16 inches. The inflorescence is a bright pink lavender paddle like shape. The flowers are fragrant. Grows best potted
