First it should be noted that there is no such thing as Tillandsia tomasellii officially. This taxa has been combined with xerographica and is for all practical purposes, that plant. However, it bears little resemblance to a ‘typical’ xerographica.
This plant more closely resembles Tillandsiafasciculata in general aspect, same basic shape, narrow, silvery leaves, etc. The inflorescence however does resemble xerographica, a tall, well branched spike of yellow. A possible hybrid? Maybe, but for now, we are keeping this plant with its old name.
By the way, our plants originated in Guatemala, not Oaxaca, Mexico where tomasellii was first found.

An attractive pot plant or hardy landscape plant, cylindrical spike with rose-red bracts and yellow flowers. A medium sized clustering plant with an upright rosette shape and short stolons. The green foliage has a dusting of trichomes giving a slight grayish appearance.
Aechmea nudicaulis ‘Alba’. This is a handsome curiosity from the hugely variable nudicaulis group. A medium sized plant at about 12 to 16 inches tall, narrowly tubular, with a deep ‘thumb print’ near the base of each leaf. The leaves are green and the bracts and flowers are both white. First brought into cultivation by Wally Berg from one of his Brazilian trips.
A tall grower in strong light, to about 24 inches in an upright, tubular rosette. The dark green leaves have silver banding on the undersides and large black spines. The bloom color is bright yellow-orange. Post bloom color is red and lasts for several months.
A nice form of this variable species which was collected by Berg and Anderson in Brazil. This form has stiff leaves, an upright, tubular shape, and the classic ’thumb-print’. The leaves are gray-green with silvery bands and the inflorescence is a compact cone with yellow flowers and bright red bracts.
A choice miniature from Mexico that grows in a full compact rosette to about 6 inches. The stiff leaves are very thick and succulent terminating in a sharp spine. With age the plant develops white filaments along the leaf margins, which grow fairly long and curl. This form has bold creamy white variegation along the margins. Cold hardy for gardens to freezing and just below. Small enough and slow enough for pot culture.
This is a good quality, versatile formula for epiphytic plants. This fertilizer does not use urea as a nitrogen source, as it is not usable by epiphytic plants. Water soluble, it can be used in daily irrigation or applied at intervals. Will not burn foliage at recommended rates and does not stain foliage. This is the fertilizer we use here at Tropiflora for our bromeliads, orchids and all epiphytic plants.
Application Rates: Constant Feed: A rate of 50 to 150 ppm of nitrogen is recommended. For bi-weekly applications: Use at the rate of 1½ to 2 tsp per gallon of water. Monthly: 1 to 1½ to tbs/gal.
