In good light the variegation develops a red coloration that is more noticeable from the undersides of the leaves. The inflorescence is bold with yellow branches and large orange bracts. Currently this is the most beautiful of all chantinii varieties available and the most sought.
The color combinations and markings are outstanding. Have admired this plant for a long time and saw this one plant available so decided to snap it up. Happy I did. As always, the packing was incomparable. Love Tropiflora.

I’m running out of space in my garden but still every now and then I find something at Tropiflora that I can’t live without. Both plants purchased were nice size and in great condition. I have learned over the years to be patient with some as they can take a while to cone to full maturity but they’re ultimately worth it.

This is the exceptional clone of Aechmea chantinii that sported to become the famous, variegated ‘Roberto Menescal’ form. Considered black but is actually deep burgundy with bold, silvery-white bands. The inflorescence is bold with yellow branches and large orange bracts. Simply a gorgeous plant!
This is way larger than I expected. My other 2 Aechmeas are 11" and 14" and I was expecting something more in that range. This is well over 24" total, and too tall for any shelving I have, so I had to search for a place to put it. But it is a spectacular plant and looks great in it's spot on the floor by the door to my balcony

Aechmea serrata, a handsome, rather large grower from Martinique in the Lesser Antilles. Shiny, dark-green leaves form an upright, 30′ rosette, with an inflorescence of lavender branches in a tightly-clustered head.
This is a good quality, versatile formula for epiphytic plants. This fertilizer does not use urea as a nitrogen source, as it is not usable by epiphytic plants. Water soluble, it can be used in daily irrigation or applied at intervals. Will not burn foliage at recommended rates and does not stain foliage. This is the fertilizer we use here at Tropiflora for our bromeliads, orchids and all epiphytic plants.
Application Rates: Constant Feed: A rate of 50 to 150 ppm of nitrogen is recommended. For bi-weekly applications: Use at the rate of 1½ to 2 tsp per gallon of water. Monthly: 1 to 1½ to tbs/gal.
