This is a notospecies, or a natural occurring hybrid between two bromeliad genera, namely Nidularium and Neoregelia. Described by Leme in 2000, It cannot be determined with certainty the exact cross that created this plant, but it is thought that Nidularium procerum is likely one parent. The Neoregelia parent might have been cruenta, or a similar species. The type locality was reported as Jequitibá, Bahia, Brazil. A medium sized plant with leathery, two inch wide leaves that are light green with serrated margins. The inflorescence is a nested cluster of green branches and short but visible, triangular bracts and light blue flowers.
