This is a hybrid made by the late Mulford Foster years ago that is thought to be a cultivar of Neoregelia spectabilis x Cryptanthus zonatus though Mr. Foster never reported the cross as was rather typical in those days.
A medium sized plant to about 18 inches across with a typical Neoregelia shape, but with leaves that are extremely thick and firm and also slightly ribbed. It has an overall green color infused with dark brownish-chestnut color, with red leaf tips. At anthesis the cup flushes red. This plant has been around for many years and has been passed from collector to collector, rarely being grown commercially. A must have for anyone that enjoys something odd or different.
