This is a stunning beauty, a boldly variegated form of an already attractive species. The species is found as an epiphyte or lithophyte in the Atlantic Forest from Rio de Janeiro and south in Brazil. A fairly large growing tank-type Vriesea to about 24 inches, has bright green foliage with dark tips and boldly striped with creamy white. The inflorescence is very tall, to 5 feet or so, with many bright red branches, variegated bracts and yellow flowers; a real show. This species is fairly cold hardy and often requires a chill to come into bloom.
