One of the giant growing Tillandisa species, this one from Bolivia. A plant forming a 3 foot or larger rosette with many broad, leathery leaves that take on a purplish hue and bear a light coating of silvery trichomes, especially when immature. With maturity the plant becomes a wide leaved rosette with leaves glaucous-green above and purplish below. The inflorescence is very tall with long branches, light pink in color with bluish flowers. A terrestrial plant in nature, it is found in "rich soils" in the Northern Yungas of Bolivia. Our plants are descended from a collection made many years ago (about 1984) by the late Fred Fuchs, who made many plant collecting expeditions to Bolivia.
