Formerly known as Orthophytum albopictum DJC. Several clones of this fine species are in cultivation in spite of the fact that in nature it occurs almost exclusively in the area of Mucuge in the Chapada Diamantina of Bahia, Brazil. Green to reddish when not in bloom with a medium sized rosette of many stiff, 3/8 inch wide leaves. At anthesis the plant takes on a red blush all over with the center becoming cherry red with a white ring around the inflorescence. It is a spectacular plant.
