This plant is endemic to the state of Epírito Santo, Brazil where it was first described by Elton Leme in 1991. It is rare in US collections and this was acquired from Selby Gardens. The plant is unusual in that it has brown barring on the underside of the leaves, produces offsets from the spent bloom spike, as well as, the typical basal offsets, and also has fragrant white flowers.
