A small growing species from the rocky soils in often disturbed portion of the arid scrublands of the Tucumanian-Bolivian Forest in the region of Entre Rios, Bolivia which is in the far southern state of Tarija. First collected in 1993 by Ibisch and Gross, it was described in the BSI Journal #45 vol. 5 in 1998. A dense rosette of green leaves about a half inch wide, armed with moderate greenish spines and coated with gray scurf on the leaf undersides. the inflorescence is a tall scape of red with thick silvery scurf resulting in a pink look and similarly colored branches and sepals. The flowers are tubular, flaring at the tip and greenish-blue. It grows well here in Florida and has proven to be trouble free to cultivate.
