A plant with an outstanding shape. Take away the few leaves that flare out and you’re left with basically the shape of an old bottle of Chianti. (See photo of wild plants in habitat below). Very bulbous with a constricted throat formed of wavy margined leaves that are very wide at the base and narrow abruptly where they bend to flare out at the ‘neck’ of the plant. The color is dark, mottled blackish purple over pale green to brownish, with dark colored leaf tips. The inflorescence is a rose colored scape with many compound branches with flowers that are basically greenish with purple petals. After blooming they turn a sort of wheat color. We found this clone near Palmeiras in the Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brazil growing on a large rock. It was barely eight inches tall at the time, full grown in a cluster. In cultivation it has grown larger, but is still a rather small and tight clone.
