The Sonoran Rock Fig. A lovely little caudiciform tree, excellent for Bonsai. Native to rocky outcrops in Baja California to Oaxaca, this plant has developed great drought tolerance by way of its thick caudex. A suggested method of culture is placing the plant on top of a rock, allowing the roots to dangle towards the soil, then mound soil over the roots. Gradually, remove the mounded soil as the root system develops. In time it will form a solid root system over the surface of the rock, creating an attractive specimen. The heart-shaped leaves are slightly gray/green and brightly veined in red. A very attractive species.
