One of only two species in this obscure and primitive genus, one being terrestrial (F. itatiaiae) and the other, this one, bocainensis, which is an epiphyte in moist forest in the Serra da Bocaina of S.E. Brazil.
Both are sun loving species in nature and should be grown moist and bright. Clump forming, bocainensis has a colorful inflorescence which is a spike, pink with blue flowers.
