A member of the Didiereacea, signature plants of the Madagascan xeric forests. The semi-succulent, lanceolate leaves are reduced to about a inch and grow subsessile and vertical in spirals around the spiny trunks. The trunk is silvery-green and heavily spined. The spines are used for defense and to gather moisture from the frequent fogs. The appeal for hobbyists is a handsome yet highly unusual plant that thrives well in container cultivation. If left untrimmed, it can reach several feet tall in a relative short time, but is suitable for even limited space as the growth is mostly vertical. No special care is necessary. Treat as any succulent.
