An unusual terrestrial from the oven-like deserts of Bolivia. We collected this plant near the Rio Azio where it grew among rocks with other species of Deuterocohnia, Puya and Fosterella. A handsome plant, growing to about 30in across, with reddish leaves armed with wicked spines. The inflorescence is perennial, and produces clusters of short branches along the 4 or 5ft spike.
